EUROPE MAKES 2021 YEAR OF THE GREEN DEAL

Green deal 1

The European Union is rolling out the world's first set of laws, rules and policies to force not just the 27-nation bloc in Europe to cut back carbon emissions, but perhaps drag the rest of the world along too.

It's called the European Green Deal and it aims to lay the ground for a new financial and political paradigm based around fighting climate change by forcing businesses and societies to move toward renewable, and still-developing, energies such as hydrogen, solar, wind and biomass.

RENEWABLE ENERGY GROWTH RATE UP 45% WORLDWIDE IN 2020

renewable energy in the world 1jpgDespite the pandemic, the growth rate in the world's renewable energy capacity jumped 45% in 2020, part of "an unprecedented boom" in wind and solar energy, according to a new report from the International Energy Agency. It's the largest annual rate of increase since 1999.

The Paris-based IEA was founded during the energy crisis of the early 1970s. It has 30 members, including the U.S., along with eight "association countries," such as China and India.

RES BECAME THE MAIN SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY IN 2020 IN THE EU

Renewable energy in EU 1

In the European Union in the power industry there was a change of leader: renewable energy has become the largest electricity producer. In 2020, for the first time the 27 countries of the European Union received more electricity from renewable sources than from fossil fuels. The share of coal, gas and oil fell to 37%, while wind, solar, hydropower and biomass provided 38% of total EU generation, increasing production by 10%.

THE SHARE OF "GREEN" ENERGY IN UKRAINE HAS INCREASED TWICE IN A YEAR

In 2020, the share of wind farms and solar power plants in the structure of electricity production has doubled - to 6.8% (3.3% in 2019) with a total electricity production of 148.9 billion kWh. The installed capacity of these renewable energy sources during the year increased by 1.9 GW (+ 41% compared to 2019).

chastka zelenoji energiji News The installed capacity of solar power plants increased the most, the peak production of which in the spring-summer the period falls on the hours of daily consumption reduction (from 12:00 to 17:00), which requires flexible tools to balance them. The balancing of renewable energy sources, mainly solar power plants, during the day was last year and remains today the main problem of integration of renewable energy sources into the energy system of Ukraine.
